Polestar 2, a smaller variant, will enter production after the Polestar 1 and serve as Volvo's first fully-electric auto. Now, someone has made a decision to explore the idea of a dreamy convertible by chopping off the fixed metal roof. "Polestar's technology and product offering benefits from synergies and economies of scale enabled by the Volvo Car Group, helping Polestar to accelerate design, development and production processes at a fraction of the time it takes for other new entrants", the company said in a statement. Naming might be a problem, as Polestars 2 and 3 are already set to be a small saloon and SUV respectively.
Polestar 1 also received a phone-as-key ("phone as a key") which allows you to open the auto using the app on the smartphone. It will be a mid-sized BEV, joining the competition around the Tesla Model 3, and with consequently higher volumes than Polestar 1.
German premium brands Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Porsche are planning to launch dozens of new high-end electric vehicles and hybrids in the next few years.
The Polestar 1 features dual electric motors putting out a combined 215 BHP that power the rear wheels.

Interestingly, Volvo and parent company Geely are using the launch of Polestar as an opportunity to step away from the traditional sales and ownership model, toward what could very well become a growing market paradigm.
