That kind of public pressures augurs well for the success of the two leaders' efforts, both of whom made concessions to get the process underway. The US has been urging direct talks between Kenyatta and Odinga to resolve the political strife. Regrettably, we have responded to our challenges by mostly running away from them.
He said some leaders even lost their seats because they joined them in calling for talks between Uhuru and Raila to avoid chaos.
Addressing journalists after the meeting President Uhuru said the meeting was aimed at ironing our differences which threatened the unity of the country.
A joint statement signed by Kenyatta and Odinga identified key areas that will be at the center stage of their new mission to promote national healing.
While political violence did not come close to that which followed the 2007 vote - when over 1,100 lives were lost - the disputed elections led to the deaths of over 100 people, majority shot by police.
Last fall alone, Kenyan security forces killed at least 55 people in election-related violence, according to Human Rights Watch.
He also allayed fears that Nasa coalition was on the verge of collapse, stating that the alliance is an idea embraced by Kenyans.
