Rajya Sabha Elections 2018: Narayan Rane to File Nomination From Maharashtra Under BJP Quota

Mukul Roy, who defected to BJP from the state ruling party a year ago, had already resigned from the upper house of Parliament. In Bihar, there are six vacancies. Interestingly, Bajpai's name was preferred over some senior leaders like Sudhanshu Trivedi and Laxmikant Bajpai, who were also in the race for Rajya Sabha seat.

Muraleedharan would file his nomination to contest for the RS seat on Monday.

According to party announcement, Kirori Lal Meena and Madan Lal Saini will be BJP candidates from Rajasthan.

Narayan Rane and Rajeev Chandrashekar are headed to Rajya Sabha, thanks to BJP. Later, BJP's Kiritsinh Rana, a former MLA, entered the race as the third candidate. The BJP will be putting up three candidates, the Congress two, and there will be an independent candidate.

"The BJP, which has 122 MLAs, is barely in a position to get three candidates elected but the fourth has been brought in with a sinister design", a Congress source said. Pradhan said that Madhya Pradesh is the national testing laboratory for welfare schemes envisaged as per the BJP's ideology and also a pioneer state in coming up with innovations for poverty alleviation.

The party has also nominated L Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrasekhar from Karnataka, while Porika Balram Naik has been nominated to contest from Telangana.

Among the other Congress nominees are party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi from West Bengal, who has been offered support by the Trinamool Congress. Veteran journalist Kumar Ketkar, who is said to be a supporter of the party's ideologies, has been named from Maharashtra.
