Authorities in MS say a 9-year-old boy has shot his 13-year-old sister in the head and wounded her after an argument over a video game controller.

The case is now under investigation with Sheriff Cantrell saying he does not yet know what consequences the boy faces, adding that he has never had a case involving such a young shooter.

Authorities confirmed Sunday that the boy, whose name has been withheld, had a fight with her sister over a video game controller, WTVA reported.

The 13-year-old was shot in the back of her head and rushed to hospital in Mississippi. The local sheriff announced that the teenager had died from the injuries in a Memphis hospital.

According to a report from CNN, the shooting occurred while the siblings' mother was in the kitchen making lunch for other children.

Cantrell said the investigation would be thorough.
