North Korean officials have told their USA counterparts that Kim Jong Un is ready to discuss denuclearization, an assurance that could pave the way for a meeting with President Donald Trump, reports said Sunday.
"The North Koreans are pushing to have the meeting in their capital, Pyongyang", but it is "unclear whether the White House would be willing to hold talks there", CNN said.
Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, is another possible place to hold the meeting. Will "Only Trump could go to Pyongyang" become an equally iconic observation?
Analysts echoed that the efforts show that the United States intelligence agencies are taking the lead for summit preparations, but expressed skepticism whether such moves were headed by the North's Reconnaissance General Bureau, which deals with clandestine operations against South Korea.
CNN said that once they agree upon a location for the summit, officials will then work on targeting a date and setting the agenda for the talks.

South Korea's top office expressed optimism on reports of contact between Washington and Pyongyang, to arrange a summit between their leaders in May. If he confirmed, he will assume oversight of the diplomatic preparations.
Officials said the current target is late May or even June, according to CNN. US officials are apparently shooting for late May or possibly June.
Talks between the two leaders are supposed to take place by May, but a time and place have yet to be decided.
Kim will meet with his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, at the border truce village of Panmunjom on 27 April.
The diplomats will make sure that the meeting is a success before it even happens so there's no worry on that score. During previous negotiations under different USA administrations, the North has agreed to freeze its nuclear weapons program in exchange for the lifting of global economic sanctions, only to violate the agreement by testing more weapons.
