Trump fires back at Comey on Twitter, calls him 'untruthful slime ball'

The three chairmen wrote that there is "no legal basis for withholding these materials from Congress".

The book is due to be released on Tuesday, but Comey has already appeared on television to promote it and the White House has been strategising for weeks about how to discredit it.

Sanders used similar language against Comey's book on Friday, saying he was "peddling a book that belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section".

Calling Comey a "disgraced partisan hack", White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters that the American people would be able to see through the "lies" in Comey's book, which offers a scathing assessment of President Trump.

"When I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won", Trump said in an interview at the time.

In the book, Comey compares Trump to a mob boss and mocks the president's appearance.

Erdogan criticizes Russian Federation , says Turkey to decide future of Syria's Afrin
On March 18, Turkish-backed troops liberated Afrin town center, which had been a major hideout for the YPG/PKK since 2012. On January 20, Turkey, together with the Free Syrian Army opposition forces, launched Operation Olive Branch in Afrin.

Comey said Trump reminded him of a mafia boss who demanded absolute loyalty, saw the entire world against him and lied about everything.

"We find that Mr. Comey has a revisionist view of history and seems like a disgruntled ex-employee, afterall he was sacked", Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway added.

"He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a bad Director of the FBI", Trump responded. Comey's recollections take aim at the President's disposition, which he says created "the forest fire that is the Trump presidency", CNN reported on Thursday. Comey portrays the President as a bully and a liar who sought to muscle federal investigators like himself.

In true Trump fashion, the president punched back hard on Twitter unleashing a rare double tweet.calling Comey "a weak and untruthful slime ball".

The White House has denied that Trump ever encouraged Comey to end an investigation into former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn, an encounter that the fired FBI director memorialized in private notes that he later described to Congress. Trump has also accused Comey of leaking information by authorizing a friend to share with journalists details of the discussion about Flynn.

"His leadership is transactional, ego-driven and about personal loyalty".
