United States President Donald Trump on Saturday (local time) skipped this year's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner and instead opted to hold a campaign-style rally in MI. Trump posted on Facebook this past week that he would hold a Saturday evening rally in MI with his "favorite deplorables" - a term that Democrat Hillary Clinton used in 2016 to describe some of Trump's campaign supporters. "Is this better than that phony Washington White House Correspondents' Dinner?".
Trump has repeatedly derided the media as dishonest, leveling claims that reporters fabricate stories in order to undermine his presidency. "And you know, you've got to smile".
"And you know, you gotta smile, and if you don't smile, they'll say 'Oh, he was bad!"
Initiated in 1921, the annual White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner is a Washington DC tradition, normally attended by both the president and vice president, along with their wives and close advisors.
Where can I watch it? . "And then I'm supposed to." he continued, faking an exaggerated smile.
QB picks fall off after first round
He joins an impressive group of Steelers receivers in Antonio Bell and 2017 first round draft pick Juju Smith-Schuster. Outside of his stats, Rudolph fits the pro-style quarterback mold at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds.
Trump, who has frequently attacked the media and its coverage of him since his days as a presidential candidate, snubbed the press dinner for a second consecutive year since taking office. I think that this is a pretty similar scenario.
Trump, last year, became the first president to skip the event since Ronald Reagan in 1981; Reagan was recovering from an assassination bid. All of the channels will also be covering Trump's rally in Macomb County, Mich., scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
In the opening minutes of the rally, Trump called on the crowd to "elect more Republicans so we can protect our cities, defend our borders, grow our economy, and continue to make America great again".
"Look forward to being in the Great State of MI tonight", Trump said in a tweet hours before the event in Washington Township.
