Kim made the comments during his summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday at a border truce village, where he also expressed optimism about his anticipated meeting with Donald Trump, saying the US president will learn he's "not a person" to fire missiles toward the United States, Moon's spokesman Yoon Young-chan said.
Moon's comments came after a presidential adviser publicly suggested the presence of USA troops would be called into question if a peace treaty were to be agreed with Pyongyang.
CNN's sources said there's a possibility Kim will invite Trump to enter North Korea, and that parts of the summit may take place in the country where no sitting U.S. president has set foot.

However, Kim Jong Un has recently shown a more conciliatory attitude, telling Seoul envoy Chung Eui-yong in March that he understood the need for the US-South Korea joint exercises. Analysts say China's sanctions implementation may have helped prompt the North's diplomatic initiatives although the secretive regime in Pyongyang has made no public comments on the issue. The question is whether this shift can converge with the current USA political climate to realize a different outcome to peace talks this time around. Some South Korean analysts believe Wang would specifically seek Kim's commitment that the process on formally ending the war would include China.
Some worry that Beijing could raise questions about the continuing presence of the USA forces in the South when the state of war is over. "But in a divided Korea, China would see the continuing presence of USA forces in Korea as acceptable and somewhat inevitable within the ongoing division".
"We're setting up meetings right now and I think it's probably going to be announced over the next couple of days, location and date", Trump said. Guterres responded that he will try to contribute to the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula, according to Moon's office.
But the President walked back the suggestion at a press conference on Monday, saying: "Well it was an interesting thought". "I want to get peace. And I had that thought".
"(We) think Panmunjom is quite meaningful as a place to erode the divide and establish a new milestone for peace", the spokesman said.
