Maguire, Schmeichel too valuable for Leicester to lose - Puel

Leicester and England star Harry Maguire

Man Utd transfer news Mourinho needs to sell players to generate funds for Harry Maguire bid

Leicester City boss Claude Puel is urging the board to keep his squad together.

Newcastle United centre back Jamaal Lascelles has earned a sterling reputation over the past couple of years as one of the country's finest young defenders, with the Foxes now reportedly keen to acquire the former Nottingham Forest man's services should Maguire be tempted by offers from elsewhere.

The Englishman emerged as a surprise target of Jose Mourinho's following his performances at the World Cup that garnered attention.

Maguire, signed from Hull for what now looks a bargain £17m just 12 months ago, would favour a move to Old Trafford but is not thought to be ready to push the issue.

Manchester United supremo Woodward has been challenged by manager Jose Mourinho to complete two signings before the transfer window shuts on August 9.

Leicester are poised to slap a £95,000 a week four-year deal in front of the 25-year-old - nearly doubling his current £50,000 a week wages.

United were understood to be planning a £65 million swoop for Maguire that would have made him the most expensive English defender.

'I am confident about the presence of Harry for this season.

After winning the Premier League season in 2015-16, expectations among the Leicester fans have been lifted to very high levels.

Leicester manager Claude Puel is confident Maguire will remain at the club, despite interest from United. Riyad Mahrez was the subject of a club-record £60m bid from Manchester City this summer. "We saw his progress during the second half of the season", said Puel.

"I think we can keep both players - it is crucial for us", the Leicester Mercury quote him as saying. To continue with us would be a fantastic thing for him and for us of course.
