Mark Warner of Virginia, plans to introduce a resolution that would prevent the President from arbitrarily revoking security clearances, days after President Donald Trump revoked the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan. Bruce Ohr may be his next target.

Former U.S. security officials issued scathing rebukes to President Donald Trump on Thursday, admonishing him for yanking a top former spy chief's security clearance in what they cast as an act of political vengeance.

Experts have described Trump's move as an unprecedented effort to silence prominent detractors, with some likening it to Sen.

Trump called Ohr a "disgrace" outside the White House and said, "I suspect I will be taking it away very quickly". "For him to be in the Justice Department and doing what he did, that is a disgrace".

Others who have earned their security clearance are also speaking out against the move.

William McRaven, a retired four-star admiral who oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid, directly addressed Trump in a Washington Post op-ed published online Thursday.

All materials, including briefing reports and memos, audio/video presentations, PowerPoint presentations and any other records, used by CIA Director Brennan and/or other CIA officials to brief Senator Reid and/or members of his staff on alleged "collusion" between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

Praising John Brennan's character, honesty, and integrity, he invited Trump to revoke his own clearance as well.

According to reports Thursday, Bruce Ohr stands to lose his job at the department if the president revokes his security clearance.

"If Brennan is to be faulted for anything, I don't think it is engendering a conspiracy against Trump, but failing as a major intelligence official to advocate a tough, firm, active policy against Russian measures to meddle with our elections", Rove said.

Sanders added that Trump would review the security clearances of other critics: former FBI Director James Comey, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA and NSA Director Michael Hayden, former National Security Advisor Susan Rice, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok, and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page; the FBI veterans no longer have clearances per Bureau exit procedures.

"So I think it's something that had to be done", he added. Last year, in a speech at the University of Texas, he pushed back against Trump's assault on the news media as "the enemy of the American people".

Trump's comments, made to reporters as he boarded Marine One en route to a Republican campaign event in NY, came amid rising criticism of the president for using security clearances as a political tool.

McRaven has been a consistently vocal critic of Trump, saying in February 2017 that Trump's attacks on the free press "may be the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime".
