Late Sunday night, Sofia learned that her second wish would be granted: A new heart was ready for her.
Surgeons performed the transplant on 11-year-old Sofia Sanchez on Monday at Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital. Well, one of them did: "to meet Drake", Sofia said in the video.
Sofia, who was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy this summer, was scheduled to receive her heart Monday morning at Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital.
The viral "In My Feelings" dance challenge has reached thousands of people, including this youngster who proves that she can still bust some moves despite her diagnosis.
"I'm getting a heart mom, oh my god!" Bardele said this is common for Lurie patients, as the house is close to the hospital for follow-up appointments, and it's easier for doctors to monitor their patients' post-operation progress.
The young girl had been awaiting a new heart for eight weeks. "What's up?" Drake told her.
"Sofia is getting a heart", the August 26 update stated.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Has Delayed Production
In the midst of the all the brouhaha, a source told the Hollywood Reporter that "The timeline (of the movie) has been pushed out". The site reports that crew members who were preparing for pre-production have been released and made free to find new work.
Sofia received the good news August 26.
"You asked me to come, I'm here".
"The surgery went well; we're hoping for good recovery", the girl's mom, Natalie Sanchez, told the Daily Herald.
"Yes please!" Sofia happily replies, jumping off her hospital bed to give him a huge embrace. It is a complicated procedure that typically takes eight to 12 hours, she said. The hospital can not confirm the heart donor, because the United Network for Organ Sharing protects donors' anonymity.
The hospital's video of the visit has gotten almost 200,000 views on Facebook.
Thus far, the crowd-sourcing page has raised more than $43,900 in just six weeks, with dozens of people offering support, as well as kind-hearted messages of love for Sofia and her family.
