Walker fires Man City to victory over Newcastle

Newcastle-Chelsea

GETTY Newcastle are yet to win in the Premier League this season

Man. City vs Newcastle: England right-back Kyle Walker's first goal for nearly three years ensured Manchester City celebrated a 2-1 victory over Newcastle on the 10th anniversary of the club's takeover by Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour.

City were below their best as they beat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday, but a win is a win and Pep Guardiola is happy with the start, particularly after a pre-season interrupted by the World Cup and extended breaks.

Raheem Sterling's clinically taken opener in the eighth minute suggested a romp in line with City's 6-1 thumping of Huddersfield Town in their previous home game.

Pep Guardiola's side restored their advantage seven minutes after the restart when Walker scored his first goal for the club with a rocket from 30 yards which left Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubrakva with no chance.

Newcastle remain in the bottom three with just one point from their opening four matches although they have included Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and now City.

Georgia police had been on the search for Wahhaj, who they believe illegally fled the state with his son nine months ago. The authorities charged the five adults after they discovered the children living in filth and squalor.

Walker, though, ensured a day of celebration for City ended the Man. City vs Newcastle game on a high as they marked the anniversary of a takeover that has led to a decade of spending and unprecedented success in their history. With such a formidable attack, the hosts were still largely wasteful in front of goal.

Goal understands that Sane had been dropped because Guardiola is unhappy with his focus, and that omitting him from the squad will help get him back on track. Subs: Joselu 6, Murphu N/A, Atsu 5.

Notably, this was Sterling's 100th EPL appearance for Manchester City.

Jamaal Lascelles: That pass to set up the City goal was abysmal. The physical battle with John Stones and Aymeric Laporte was one to relish and some wonderfully astute play created Yedlin's goal.

"They know me, they convince me the minute they run and do everything".
