"This is a very, very - this is a very hard time". While Kavanaugh was not "perfect with respect to alcohol", Trump said he knew opposition Democrat senators who are not "angels".

The nomination has become a politically explosive issue ahead of November 6 elections, when control of Congress is at stake. A federal statute, 18 U.S.C. 1001, criminalizes such acts "under penalty of felony" saying such persons will be "fined and imprisoned not more than 5 years".

As for Trump's comments, the president joked about the details of Ford's allegations that she could not remember while speaking in front of a raucous crowd in MS tonight.

Some Republicans and White House allies have suggested the allegations against Kavanaugh can be potent political fodder in the run-up to November 6, animating GOP voters who have so far lacked the same motivation to head to the polls as their Democratic counterparts. "Well, do you think it was - nope, it was one beer", Trump said, mocking the accuser. "The interaction with the members was sharp and partisan, and that concerns me", Flake said.

"I'll tell you this, the people that have complained to me about it the most about what's happening are women".

Officials said Trump is seeking to boost Hyde-Smith as close as possible to the 50 percent threshold and lend momentum for a possible runoff.

Trump on Kim: Tough talk ... 'and then we fell in love'
In June, Mr Trump met with the North Korean leader in Singapore as part of an attempt to push his regime into denuclearisation. Pompeo is planning to visit Pyongyang next month to prepare for a second Kim-Trump summit.

She initially said she saw Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge spiking the punch at parties, making them much more complicit in whatever sexual misdeeds happened next.

It marked an aggressive change of tactics after Trump had opted to show restraint towards Christine Blasey Ford, calling her a "very credible witness" following her Senate testimony against Judge Brett Kavanaugh last week.

Republicans control the Senate by a 51-49 margin. "The Senate will vote on Judge Kavanaugh here, on this floor, this week", McConnell told the chamber.

An FBI investigation is an important step, and should be completed. The commander-in-chief launched into the attack at the rally before bemoaning Kavanaugh's life "is in tatters" over Dr. Ford's sexual assault allegation. The fourth, Deborah Ramirez, accuses Kavanaugh of thrusting his exposed penis in her face at a college party.

The FBI will also question Leland Keyser and P.J. Smyth, two people who Ford said were at the gathering of teenagers where Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted her.

Ugh. His logic is utterly demeaning to the victims of sexual misconduct, but it's exactly the type of narrow-minded garbage we'd expect from the man who was accused of sexual assault and still became president.
