The Catalan explained the importance of Messi, arguably the greatest to ever play football and someone who he describes as 'a competitive and fierce animal who hates losing'.

Lionel Messi is not fit to be a leader in part because he prefers PlayStation to conversing with team-mates, according to Diego Maradona.

Diego Maradona didn't hold back on Argentine compatriot Lionel Messi, saying he is not leadership material.

Maradona, who led Argentina to victory in 1986, said Messi, who was again unable to emulate that feat in Russian Federation this summer was expected to be "the saviour of the fatherland".

"If we are favourites it means we are good, really good", Guardiola said.

Messi is now taking a break from the national team, and Maradona thinks it was probably the right decision to give the superstar some rest.

NASA released a statement after a Russian booster rocket on a mission to the International Space Station failed after launch. They will spend the night in Baikonur before being flown to Star City, Russia's space training center outside Moscow.

Messi has always been criticised for failing to reproduce his Barcelona form when he's on worldwide duty and hasn't played for Argentina since they exited the 2018 World Cup. Messi at Barcelona is one thing and another with Argentina.

Manchester City have rubbished claims they made a failed bid to sign Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.

"For me it's hard to talk, but it's pointless wanting to make a man who goes to the bathroom 20 times before a match into the leader", Maradona further remarked.

Maradona led Argentina to the World Cup crown in 1986 and is revered in his homeland as a God due to the feats. Then, on the pitch, he wants to be the leader.

"I don't know if we're prepared and we don't have the history behind us to say if we are up to the mark".

Messi and Maradona are both revered in Argentina as the best two players the football-mad country has ever produced. "Ronaldo is more of a centre-forward while Messi is more organised", he added.
