Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande may have called off their engagement according to new reports

The 25-year-old singer and 24-year-old "Saturday Night Live" funnyman went public in late May and were engaged less than a few weeks later after Davidson popped the question with a massive 3-carat diamond ring.

The couple started dating in May and reports of their engagement broke in June. They add that while they love each other, "things are over romantically". The website says sources close to the pair both agreed "it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off".

A source close to Grande told People the death of ex Mac Miller plunged the singer into a depression and caused her to reevaluate the whirlwind engagement to the comedian. "It's not shocking to anyone".

Their engagement came as a shock to many as she had just split with boyfriend of two years, Mac Miller in May. Pete also had her last name, Grande, inked across his ribs.

Grande has been struggling recently with the death of ex Mac Miller, which came as she was still trying to cope with the bombing at her Manchester concert past year.

Grande has also been dealing with Miller's sudden death last September. It's clear that Ariana was deeply affected by Mac's loss; she commented at length about being anxious about how his dependency on drugs strained her relationship with him, and other stars close to the pair confirmed that she maintained contact with him after their breakup. The reason is still unclear since neither Ariana nor Pete have commented on the breakup.

However, Grande expressed via social media that she was having a hard time recently while she called off several appearances too.

As of Sunday evening, Grande's Instagram still featured numerous photographs of Davidson.
