No official announcement has been made by NBC, but The Daily Mail is reporting the network will pay out the remainder of her salary, believed to be in the range of $69 million. Now, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter, she's lost her perch as host of NBC's Today Show at 9 a.m.
Kelly was absent from her NBC News morning show on Thursday after the comments earlier this week.
Bear in mind Kelly did not don blackface herself, she simply said that years ago the practice was not considered controversial so long as it was tied to the portrayal of a character.
The host came under fire on Tuesday after suggesting that it was acceptable to wear blackface as long as it was part of a Halloween costume. "I'm Megyn Kelly and I want to begin with two words: I'm sorry", she began.
"Given the circumstances, Megyn Kelly Today will be on tape the rest of the week", an NBC News spokeswoman said Thursday morning. Al Roker and Craig Melvin strongly criticized Kelly's comments during the 7 a.m. hour of "Today" on Wednesday.
Kelly discussed the origins of her creatively spelled name with the website NameCandy in 2009.
Euro Lower on Italian Budget Worries
But the country's populist coalition government has done the opposite - offering a draft budget that boosted overall spending. Both the budget's fiscal expansion plans "and the size of the deviation are unprecedented", they said.
"If Megyn Kelly had been getting great ratings I imagine NBC would stand by her".
"Megyn Kelly's litigator Bryan Freedman is meeting with NBC execs [Friday] and has requested that Ronan Farrow attend, so he can be a witness", a source told the tabloid. "It's more important for Megyn to see her kids off to school and be home for dinner with her husband - who has done a great job of being Mr. Mom for most of 2016, something she credits him for often". Kelly had been scheduled to take part in NBC News' coverage of the 2018 midterm elections.
The report notes that Kelly has been critical of NBC's handling of Farrow, with Kelly running a segment in September calling on the network to hire an outside firm to determine why it spiked his reporting on Weinstein.
Another source said that Kelly's show will be ending, but negotiations about the end date and other details are still underway.
"The fact is, she owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the county", he said, as reported by The Hill. Her remarks tapped into a painful vein of American racial history that Kelly said in an apology she was only now fully realizing.
They also do not know how they are going to handle her exit from Today and where she goes from there. They were hoping to bring some of her popularity.
