Shortly after Cohen's guilty plea in the Southern District of New York, Senate Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Mark Warner said that Cohen "needs to come back and share more" with the committee.
"Cohen's status with the special prosecutor was very ambiguous until apparently recently, and I think that this is a recognition that, they've gone from sort of frenemies to really on the same team", Cotter said. He also argued he didn't follow through with the Moscow project because he was running for the White House.
Michael Cohen, a former personal attorney to US President Donald Trump, pleaded guilty in NY to lying to Congress about a Moscow real estate project that Trump and his company pursued during the months he was running for president.
Cohen's appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee on October 25, 2017, and discussed the Moscow project.
As Cohen's attorney Guy Petrillo told reporters outside the courthouse Thursday, "Mr. Cohen is cooperating, Mr. Cohen will continue to cooperate". He says Mueller's office was able to bring charges against Cohen because it had "the advantage" that Cohen made his testimony public.
Warner has also tied Cohen's guilty pleas to Trump. He said that he did not end up doing the Trump Tower project, but that he was within his rights to conduct business during the presidential campaign.
The plea deal states that "as Cohen well knew, Cohen's representations about the Moscow Project he made to (the Senate and House Intelligence Committees) were false and misleading".

Cohen said he lied to be consistent with Trump's "political message".
Lanny Davis tweets President Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen is providing "critical information" to the Mueller investigation; Laura Ingle reports.
The developments come as Trump continues nearly daily attacks, via Twitter, on Mueller's ongoing investigation of his alleged campaign's links to Russian Federation and whether Trump, as president, obstructed justice in an effort to thwart the probe.
Cohen on Thursday morning pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about his involvement in a plan to build Trump Tower in Moscow.
"With each indictment and each guilty plea, we learn more about the president's connections to Russian Federation in the midst of Russia's efforts to interfere in the 2016 election", said Virginia Sen.
- Cohen, who was Trump's personal lawyer and a senior executive in the president's real estate business, the Trump Organization, admitted to having lied to Congress about trying to negotiate a deal for a Trump Tower in Moscow well into the middle of 2016, even when Trump had wrapped up the Republican nomination for president.
Cohen's guilty plea on Thursday may signal his hope for a lighter sentence in exchange for continuing his cooperation with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether Trump colluded with Moscow.
After previously implicating the president in a conspiracy to shirk campaign finance laws to pay off a Playmate and a porn star, the latest lies Cohen plead guilty to are about Trump's true loves: real estate and Putin. And this has been a highly eventful week for Mueller's probe.
